EM.S20 Exploring & Applying Human-Centered Design

H1 (first half of term) | Fall 2022 | 6 units | Pre req: none (graduate level class open to undergrads) 

Lecture: MW 2:00-3:30 (4-013) Lab: MW 3:30-5:00 (4-013)

Develop an understanding of qualitative user research and concept generation techniques that will help you uncover what people need and develop creative solutions to meet those needs. Maximize the odds of product success and derisk ideas through a deep understanding of customers. Prototype apps and websites using user interface and user experience design principles. Apply these learnings in a team project exploring services and digital products. Enrollment limited to 30 students. By application only. Taught by Integrated Design & Management staff.

 

EM.S21 Design, Prototype, & Make a Lamp

H1 (first half of term) | Fall 2022 | 3 units | Pre req: none (graduate level class open to undergrads)

Lecture: TR 1:00-2:30 (4-013) Lab: TR 2:30-4:00 (4-013)

Design, prototype, and build a lamp using a variety of techniques, machines, and materials. Learn to sketch, use CAD, work with wood and metal, cast plastic parts, 3D print, and laser cut. Enrollment limited to 30 students. Shop and materials fees required. By application only. Taught by Integrated Design & Management staff.

 

EM.S22 Design/Make/Sell – Concept to Profit in 8 Weeks 

H2 (second half of term) | Fall 2022 | 6 units | Pre req: none (graduate level class open to undergrads) 

Lecture: MW 2:00-3:30 (4-013) Lab: MW 3:30-5:00 (4-013)

Design a product, manufacture a production run, and sell them for a profit in just 8 weeks! This unique team-based project is as real as it gets. Learn about product design, industrial design, prototyping, engineering, manufacturing, quality control, costing, pricing, marketing, and sales. Enrollment limited to 30 students. Shop and materials fees required. By application only. Taught by Integrated Design & Management staff.
